Southland Humanitarians to Be Honored at Crystal Heart Ball

Little Company of Mary Hospital Foundation will host the Crystal Heart Ball on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at the Field Museum. The event also showcases individuals and/or organizations for their outstanding accomplishments and service and will honor two of Southland’s well-known humanitarians.

This year’s Venerable Mary Potter Humanitarian Award will be presented to Thomas Taff, Founder of the Bucks for Burn Camp. Bucks for Burn is a fundraiser to benefit the Illinois Fire Safety Alliance’s, “Camp I am Me,” a camp that allows burn victims a chance to repair their self esteem and have fun without being teased or victimized. Taff is a Chicago firefighter and burn survivor from a 1991 accident that left him with second and third degree burns. His inspiration was developed from the children who were hospitalized with him during rehabilitation. Today, his fund raising efforts have earned more than one million dollars for the camp.

This year’s Sister Nancy Boyle Award for Excellence honoree is Salli Lizcano for her active involvement with Little Company of Mary’s Auxiliary Committee and special events. Salli Lizcano is the owner of Strands Salon in Oak Lawn. Her relationship began with Little Company of Mary when she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer and treated at the Hospital. Lizcano’s continued involvement with Little Company of Mary mirrors a “pay it forward” tradition through her countless volunteering efforts and involvement well after her recovery 19 years ago. Lizcano continues to be an exemplary ambassador for Little Company of Mary.

Dr. Travis and Mrs. Joanne Haldeman will chair this premier fundraising event along with their co-chairpersons, Mr. James and Ms. Marti Doherty. Guests will enjoy a cocktail reception, followed by a gourmet meal prepared by Blue Plate Catering as well as enjoy the elegant music of The City Lights Orchestra. Attendees will have exclusive access to the gleaming featured exhibit: Gold.

A cash raffle will be offered with a grand prize of $15,000 as well as a second prize of $5,000, third prize of $2,500, and fourth prize of $1,000. Raffle tickets are on sale for $100 each in the foundation department and winners do not have to be present.

The Crystal Heart Ball tickets are $300 per person and proceeds will benefit Values. Vision. Innovation: The Campaign for Little Company of Mary Hospital. Guests may purchase a Diamond table for $7,500 or a Heart of Gold Table for $5,000, each offering special benefits.
