Nearly 160 sisters, mothers, wives and BFFs gathered at the Oak Lawn Hilton for the Sixth Annual Girls’ Night Out event on Thursday, September 25, 2013. It was a night for women to treat themselves to good wine, food and share stories with each other. “Women are the cornerstone of families and communities,” said Joan Murphy, RN, Ph. D., director of Little Company of Mary’s Women’s Wellness Consultants. “The Girls’ Night Out event is about giving women permission to make themselves ‘number one’ on the list and focus on their own needs.”
Dr. Jessica Sulkowski, OB/Gyn for Little Company of Mary’s Medical Group, located at 2850 W. 95th Street in Evergreen Park, gave the keynote presentation.
In Dr. Sulkowski’s educational and humorous presentation-“Flashdance,” she shed some interesting medical facts on pre, peri and post-menopause. Dr. Sulkowski explained why women go through menopause and why women endure uncomfortable symptoms such as hot flashes. Dr. Sulkowski provided medical treatment options as well as holistic options. Eating healthy foods like soybeans can be effective for reducing frequency and severity of hot flashes.
After the informative presentation, attendees were in for a humorous treat with Joan Murphy, as she presented the “The Gift of Five.” Joan encouraged all women to believe in themselves. “Having faith in yourself will ensure that you achieve all of your goals,” said Murphy. Joan encouraged all attendees to say out loud “I know I am the queen because I know how to rule myself.” Joan motivational speech left women feeling empowered to conquer their fears and to achieve their goals.
Joan further encouraged women to visit them at their new relaxing suite located in Little Company of Mary’s new Women’s Center for Life and Health. The Women’s Center for Life and Health includes the Women’s Wellness Consultants, Health Education Programs, diagnostic imaging, the Nationally Accredited Comprehensive Breast Health Center and the Family Birth Center.
