More Than 400 Women Laced in Pink Boas, Flannels and PJ’s Marched into Alsip’s Doubletree hotel to Fight Breast Cancer

Pink was the color of the night at the Doubletree hotel in Alsip as more than 400 women laced in their pink boas, tiaras, and pajamas attended the 3rd annual Pink Pajama Party. The Pink Pajama Party is an overnight fundraiser celebration for breast cancer patients, survivors and supporters benefiting Little Company of Mary’s Cancer Center for free Integrative Therapy programs and support services for cancer patients. For the third consecutive year the Pink Pajama Party has sold out nearly immediately after registration opened.

The fundraiser’s co-chairs, Joanne Jager and Stacy Mulcahy, continue to be amazed at the generosity and support the event receives year after year. “There is nothing better than a girls’ night out – unless you can party in your PJ’s with your girlfriends,” said co-chair Joanne Jager. “For the third year this signature event for Little Company of Mary Hospital has brought breast cancer survivors, their friends, families and other supporters together for a night of dinner, giveaways, dancing and fun.”

Aside from non-melanoma skin cancer, breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in the United States. One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime. Breast cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer death among women of all races. However, with early detection and treatment, most people continue a normal life. Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women and 2,150 men in the United States will be diagnosed with breast.

Little Company of Mary Hospital recognizes the importance of holistic health in the healing process and is responding to the needs of area cancer patients and their families who want access to these types of services. Integrative Therapy offers a full array of integrative therapy services for cancer patients, such as acupuncture, hypnosis for relaxation, guided imagery, massage therapy, yoga, Tai Chi and healing touch, post-treatment esthetic care, including prosthetic and make up counseling. This is in addition to all of the conventional cancer services. These are complementary therapies offered and they help cancer patients better cope with the life-changing event of a cancer diagnosis. The holistic therapies provide support and help patients become confident cancer survivors.

The Cancer Center’s Integrative Therapy Department of Little Company of Mary Hospital will be honored with The Sister Nancy Boyle Award for Excellence at the Crystal Heart Ball, Saturday, February 2nd at the Field Museum. The Sister Nancy Boyle Award honors a person or Hospital program that reflects the gentle strength, compassion and courage Sister Nancy Boyle, L.C.M., an inspiring leader and friend to all who knew her.
