As someone who has been a part of the Little Company of Mary Hospital family for more than 20 years, Mary Jo May has seen first-hand the incredible ministry of the hospital and its enriching effects on the communities it serves.
She is currently serving as the Executive Director of the Little Company of Mary Hospital Foundation, which is in the midst of Values. Vision. Innovation, the capital campaign to raise $12.5 million for the Campus Transformation Project. Thus far, $7.1 million has been raised in cash and five-year pledges.
While she has been a part of the organization for years, Mary Jo’s first ties to the hospital stem from her experience as a patient. She gave birth to her children at the hospital and was very impressed with its ministry of care.
“It was something I could feel tangibly,” she said.
She volunteered at the hospital when her children were younger, working with new moms in what was called the Baby Alumni program. She and the group of other young moms would take cards, magazines and gifts for the children at home to the “baby floor” and meet with new moms to sign up their baby in Little Company’s “Baby Alumni.” The group was sponsored by the Hospital Auxiliary and raised money through special events and other projects.
Mary Jo came on board full time in 1989, and has been there ever since. As Executive Director of the Hospital’s Foundation, she oversees “Values. Vision. Innovation and philanthropy at the hospital.
“Little Company of Mary is very well-known and loved in the Southwest Chicagoland area because of the ministry we represent,” said May. The Sisters have modeled the compassionate and high quality health care for which we are so well known, and we follow in their footsteps.”
The Foundation invites all who are a part of the Little Company of Mary family – physicians, employees, volunteers – as well as those who have experienced Little Company’s care, as well as businesses and residents who value Little Company of Mary – to support the campus transformation by making a gift to insure excellent health care for future generations.
