Little Company of Mary Hospital Announces 25th Annual Crystal Heart Ball Honorees

Little Company of Mary Hospital Foundation will host the 25th year anniversary of the Crystal Heart Ball on Saturday, February 7, 2015, at the Field Museum. The Crystal Heart Ball showcases individuals and organizations for their outstanding accomplishments and service. This year, the hospital will honor one of Metropolitan Chicago’s well-known humanitarian groups and an outstanding department at Little Company of Mary Hospital.

The Venerable Mary Potter Humanitarian Award honors individuals whose personal and professional accomplishments embody the ideas, vision and mission of Venerable Mary Potter, who founded the Little Company of Mary Sisters in 1877. The 2015 Venerable Mary Potter Humanitarian Award will be presented to Rita Ryan, Founder of A New Direction (A.N.D.). Rita has been a resident of the Beverly Morgan Park community for over 24 years and is an Illinois State Certified Domestic Violence Professional. She maintains her certification through continuing education credits from workshops and conferences. Rita is a dynamic advocate whose dedication to the individuals and families in need is exemplary. Rita began her work in the domestic violence field after completing the state-mandated training in Domestic Violence and was an employee of Rainbow House/Beverly Morgan Park in Chicago for most of her career. After Rainbow House closed their office in the Beverly/Morgan Park community, Rita worked tirelessly with community residents and partners to establish A New Direction Beverly Morgan Park.

A New Direction is a local non-profit organization providing counseling support and legal advice at no charge to victims of domestic violence. They work to provide counseling, education, support and advocacy to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
