Every month, we feature a provider as an opportunity for the community to learn more about the great people on staff at Little Company of Mary (LCM). This month, we had the chance to talk with Ramsey Ellis, M.D., orthopedic surgeon with the LCM Medical Group Bone & Joint Specialists. Dr. Ellis is fellowship-trained in hand and wrist surgery. Read on to get to know Dr. Ellis:
Why did you decide to become a physician?
I was in college when I decided to become a physician. Medicine allowed me to pair my passion for human anatomy and biology with a desire to be of service to people.
How did you choose your specialty?
The development of the opposable thumb is perhaps the single greatest event in human evolution. Who could resist being a specialist for such a wonderful thing!
What is your philosophy of care?
Primum non nocere. First, do no harm. This is a central principle in the practice of medicine. Physicians have a myriad of medications, tests, and procedures that can help patients, but these tools must be used appropriately. My job as a physician is to educate my patients about the risks and benefits of available treatments, and help them to make an informed decision about their care.
What is the number one advice / tip you give your patients for healthy living?
Wear your seat belt. Wear your helmet. Avoid tobacco products.
As a new physician with the LCM Medical Group, what have you noticed is the best thing Little Company of Mary has to offer patients?
There is a unique sense of community in the LCM Medical Group that creates a wonderful atmosphere for patients.
What are your hobbies and interests outside of the office?
Traveling, cycling and museums.
